Anyone who scans a static QR code can read what's inside it, so think about who might see it — especially for young children whose bags travel through public places.

    Share only what's needed

    Name, class and an emergency number are usually enough. Leave out the home address and date of birth for bags and outdoor items.

    Use a parent's number

    List a parent's or the school office's phone number rather than the child's own.

    Add medical notes that matter

    Allergies or conditions like asthma can help a first responder — keep them short.

    Print big enough
